As you may already know, I am a huge fan of vintage rugs, and after the addition of our living room rug, the dining room was feeling a little left out. It lacked that same wow factor as the living room. So I decided it was time to make the change and add one from our favorite online rug shop Revival Rugs. They have a vast selection, affordable prices, and detailed information about each one-of-a-kind rug, which makes finding the right one and rug pairs super simple.

When choosing rug pairs, the two key factors I like to consider are color and pattern. I am going to share my exact process, which helped us to find our pair as well as some of my favorite vintage combinations from Revival Rugs.

Color

First, find a common color or colors in both rugs. Our living room rug is predominantly navy, but that doesn't mean it needed to be the primary color in our dining room. We looked at the secondary color instead, which was beige, and used it as the color to drive our search. We also used a few other colors that would help connect the two rugs. Our dining room rug has a tiny bit of navy, some light pink, and walnut brown, which are the colors found in both.

Revival lists the colors of each rug under Product Details, which we found super helpful in finding similar colors.

Pattern

Vintage rugs have a few different variations of patterns called motifs. To bring more visual interest in the space, we wanted two completely different designs. Our dining room rug has small repeated medallions, which creates a balance, where our living room rug has a central medallion and creates more of a central focal point. The same technique would work with when using a pattern and a solid area rug.
